While wrestling has a history that dates back to the early medieval times, the modern international sport has its roots in international competitions such as the Olympic Games. This sport is practiced by two competitors, wherein one wrestler forces the opponent to lie on the floor or in a supine position for a predetermined length of time.
Before the emergence of the WWF in 1983, there was a professional wrestling promotion called World Championship Wrestling. After the WWF purchased the rights to the show, it began to air on the Superstation WTBS from 1984 to 1985. Afterward, Jim Crockett Promotions took over the time slot and continued to use the name until 1988.
Following this, there were several shows that competed for the same time slot. One of these was the ECW, or Extreme Championship Wrestling, which aired from 1992 to 2001.
Another competitor was the Tuesday Night Titans. Although it started out as a sports show, it became a variety show.
Saturday Night’s Main Event is also a competitor. From 1987 to 1991, the show was a recurring weekly television program that aired on NBC.
